Cherish it!
Some helpful hints for keeping your Jane Shilton handbags and shoes in good condition.
Handbag care
-
Do not use polish or cleaning spray on any leather products.
All of our leather products have been given a protective finish.
-
To remove surface dirt, occasionally wipe gently with a soft duster.
Stains can sometimes be removed using a mild soapy solution, not a detergent.
-
Suede which has been rain-marked should be allowed to dry naturally and then brushed up with a suede brush.
-
When not in use, store leather goods out of direct sunlight and do not place
light colours next to dark colours as this can cause colour migration which is irreversible.
-
Try not to overfill your handbag . overfilled handbags tend to lose their shape.
This can loosen the dye and can cause colour bleeding.
Shoe care
Uppers
-
Leather is not waterproof, we therefore advise you to avoid wearing your shoes in the rain.
Use protector, especially on suede and nubuck.
-
Unless specifically recommended, do not use any polish or spray on any metallic or pearlised leather.
-
Leather is a natural product, so some gradual creasing or cracking will occur during normal wear.
This is not considered to be a fault. Patent leather has a surface film which can be prone to cracking.
-
Try to avoid storing your shoes in extremely cold temperatures.
-
To maintain the shape of your shoes, rest them between wears with shoe trees or tissue.
Soles
-
Leather soles are considered a luxury and should be treated as such. They are not waterproof.
If soles become wet, dry your shoes naturally at the first opportunity. Never dry near heat.
-
We do not recommend the use of stick-on soles or top lifts which alter the balance of the shoes.
